In our country we’ve got something called ubuntu. When I want to praise you, I say this person has ubuntu. Because in our culture there is no such thing as a solitary individual. We say a person is a person through other persons. That we belong in the bundle of life. And I want you to be all you can be, because that’s the only way I can be all I can be. I need you! I need you to be you so that I can be me. — Archbishop Desmond Tutu

CWS 5 — Det 3, Work Day at the Old Ball Park

The White Sox channeled a bit of 2005 as they won a double-header versus the AL Central leading (and defending AL Champs) Detroit Tigers. In a welcome departure from how the season has gone, the sox got good (great in game 1) starting pitching, good offensive production, and solid work out of the bullpen. It’s been a rough season on the south side as the early season offensive woes were exacerbated by an ineffective (to the point of being horrid) bullpen, so today was a surprising (good, but surprising) respite from the bad times on the South Side.

My group from work was at the afternoon game as part of our staff appreciation effort. A good time was had by all! The White Sox won our game 5–3 behind a solid 8 innings of pitching from Javier Vasquez. I’d originally bought the tickets for April 26th which was rained out, but as it worked out it was a much better day for the game today and we were able to get a bigger group together. Fun.

This was my first baseball game of this season. I typically make it to 3 or 4 games a season (which includes the occasional game at Wrigley).

Related: I’ve been putting off writing about “Fantasyland” because I want the White Sox season to get past the trading deadline and want to see if I can actually follow-through and execute my decision to get rid of cable tv (the main thing I use cable TV for is baseball in the summer/fall and basketball in the fall/winter).
